About me

Experienced editor of award-winning fiction and nonfiction

Beth Lindop

I’m a skilled editor and proofreader with 17 years of professional experience in editing, publishing, and project management. I held in-house editorial and management roles at Penguin Random House South Africa for nearly a decade, and I’ve worked as a freelance editor for authors, businesses, Big Five publishers, and independent presses worldwide. I specialize in editing fiction and trade nonfiction (see What I Edit).

I have a Master’s degree in English and certificates in advanced editing and proofreading, publishing finance, project management, and content management and strategy. With proficiency in South African English, American English, and British English, I have expertise in working with international authors and non-native speakers of English. I am an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and the Publishing Professionals Network (PPN). There's nothing I love more than helping writers shape and perfect their prose (see My Approach).

In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family, hiking in the mountains of Vermont, running along the Connecticut shoreline, or—of course—reading. I particularly enjoy memoirs, essay collections, psychological thrillers, and historical fiction.

I hail from Cape Town, South Africa, and lived, studied, and worked in Canada and the UK before settling in Guilford, Connecticut, in the USA.

My Approach

I bring a keen eye for detail, thoughtful textual engagement, and sharp insight to every project. I will treat your text with care and professionalism, offering constructive feedback and suggesting improvements with sensitivity and respect. I am reliable, knowledgeable, and thorough: authors and publishers can count on me to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.

I believe that collaboration is the key to effective editing. When working with authors, my goal is to form a constructive partnership that allows us to refine, clarify, and enhance the writing together, ensuring it reaches its full potential.
